Breakfast Read: The annual Foresight Africa 2019 is a publication I look forward to every January. This year’s edition features expert insight (with pieces of interest authored by President Cyril Ramaphosa, Aliko Dangote, Mo Ibrahim and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) and a range of case studies on 6 themes that will drive growth and development across Africa this year.
The 2019 themes include Governance, with a look at the institutions of democracy, the rule of law, the interests of the people, the widening leadership-to-population age gap and elections on the continent. Economic growth is at the heart of the balance of themes which include Managing Debt and Mobilising Financial Resources, strategies to meet the demands of Africa’s Youth Dividend, addressing Fragility, Economic Dynamism and policy reform as well as forums of engagement on Trade and Investment.
My current highlights:
– Breaking down the links between poverty, stability and fragility.
– Meeting the consumer, labour and economic demands of a young, increasingly urbanized population in an era of rapid technology adoption
– Understanding the implications of the AfCFTA on intra-continental trade and investment, industrialization and economic diversification.
My inner nerd 🤓 is loving the fresh set of correlations between risk and reward, opportunity and stability, the role of the private sector, policy, protectionism and competitiveness, market accessibility and development. Download your copy here:
